There is a captivating history to the Cambodia casinos that sit just across the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which casino betting is not permitted. Eight gambling dens are based in a relatively small space in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in an excellent location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The amazing income acquired from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few controls requirements for gambling hall ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, financial sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 09:00 to 17:00, and although visas are allegedly needed to pass, there are methods around this, as is true of most borders.

The 1st Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in 1994, but were forced to close in 1998, leaving only 1 gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, contains one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga river boat is open all day and night with forty two tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, 4 tables of 21, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown before long opened. There are 150 one armed bandits and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 slots and 68 tables at the Holiday Palace. The latest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred one armed bandits and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 one armed bandits and ninety six table games, including eighty seven punto banco (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar gaming tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six one armed bandits and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a comprehensive resort and hotel building that contains a number of conveniences accompanying the casino, which contains ten thousand sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
